Passing a 9mm kidney stone

Hi everyone, I looked for a board on kidneys but I didn't see one - if
I missed it and I'm posting this in the wrong place, please tell me
and I'll move it

Anyway, two weeks ago my Dr. sent me for routine xrays of my right
hip. That xray showed a 9mm kidney stone in my right kidney. I have
had minor kidney soreness the past week, but nothing near what I had
with my last kidney stone attack.

See, 2 years ago I had to have 2 surgeries to remove another 9mm stone
in the same right kidney. My dr (the local health department, ugh)
says if "it isn't broke, don't fix it" - in other words let it sit
there and get even larger, causing me even more trouble then the last
9mm stone I had removed did.

So I was wondering if there is anything I can do to go ahead and give
it a nudge? Get the pain and nonsense over with now... rather than let
it grow more. And, can't big stones just sitting in the kidney cause
damage over time?

I've been drinking plenty of water... is that pretty much all I can
do? Anybody know?
